Coatepec welcomes you, a city with the aroma of coffee
In the orchard that covers the eastern slopes of the Pico de Orizaba and Cofre de Perote volcanoes, this small town is characterized by large Andalusian-style houses with beautiful interior gardens. Through its streets, you can smell the aroma of roasted coffee, the hallmark of its magic, which also reappears in its parks, old houses and farms
.
Coatepec is eight kilometers south of the city of Xalapa and could easily be combined with a visit. Its height is 1,250 meters above sea level , which is why it enjoys a temperate climate with little temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The main agricultural production is coffee of national repute. followed by banana, mango and other tropical fruits.
Its fame as a coffee town originated when the Cuban was brought to the Hacienda de Zimpizahua in 1808 to plant the seeds of the Arab coffee tree in its fertile land. Now it is considered the coffee zone with the greatest tradition and quality in the country. Coatapec is famous for its greenhouses and gardens.
The most famous places around this magical city are La Purísima, María Cristina and La Providencia. The main square is often home to stalls selling souvenirs such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings made from coffee beans.
In
Plazuela El Zaguán you will find the Los Milagros Gallery , which has rag dolls, earrings, pillows, wooden boxes, paintings by Veracruz artists and an endless number of
handicrafts . And if you get the chance, stop by
Bautista Gálvez Wines and Liqueurs , where they sell toritos, a traditional drink in flavors like coffee, nanche, vanilla and orange.
.
